Seemless Wordpress Hosting Migration

I just changed my hosting service to GoDaddy. I hope everything works normally. I was using their services for a while and I was content, so I decided to move my blog to their servers. I tried to move everything I needed to my new server.

  1. I uploaded newest version of wordpress, created a new database and configured it on the temporary page.
  2. I copied the plug-ins, themes, and some other folders to my new server.
  3. I backed up the previous database and restored to the new server. This option works only if you are going to use the same domain name.
  4. Than I changed my domain name name servers to godaddy name servers
  5. After 2 hours, the site was up and running on the new server with a little problem. Permalinks was not working.

This was because of Godaddy 404 page behavior. To make it work

  • Go to Hosting Control Panel.
  • Click to Settings-> 404 Error Behavior
  • Instead of default Default Godaddy.com’s 404 page, select Make my 404 Page my Home Page.

Finally deactivate all the plugins and enable the one you need to make sure that every plug-in you use initialize correctly.

Road to Cambridge

I am nearly at the end of second term. This term was even more intensive than the first one. I have a series of exams and assignments that keeps me busy nowadays.

Beside that, next term, I am moving to Cambridge to work as a research intern at Microsoft Research. I am very pleased to say that and this is  the best news I had. I am really excited about it and really looking forward to go and work with them.

I will join F# team in Cambridge and I will develop some libraries for the language. I will be more in functional programming in next months.  You will see soon.

Expressing imperatively for the last time

MethodInvoker roadTo= new MethodInvoker(Cambridge) ;
IAsyncResult res =roadTo.BeginInvoke(null,"still dreaming...");

Vista Developer Day at Microsoft UK

I just surprised when I see an event from Microsoft about Windows Vista. I was expecting it, but not before the real release of Vista. Anyway, it is a bit late for telling that, but Vista Developer Launch is this weekend at Microsoft Campus in Reading.

This is a 2 day event 19th and 20th January. 19th January will be some sessions about Windows Vista or Office 2007. 20th January will be practice. So they invite us to code in a huge room which sounds really cool. They also claim that they have 1000 of Windows Vista copies.

On Friday, I have to work so I will not join the first day. However if I can wake up, I really want to go on Saturday for coding with people :). If you like to join me, just contact me… I was invited for a dinner on Friday night and I just couldn’t make it..

Virtual Earth

We are getting close to Minority Report as a futuristic sense. Microsoft has updated their Virtual Earth product to take a ride around some cities. The world is getting smaller.  It’s impressive to take a race car or a sport car to hang around Seattle or San Francisco or you might want to walk as well. Those cities will be more in a matter of time. Unfortunetely, we are really approching the limits of virtual world than Singularity is near.

Virtuality Project

It has been quite a long time since I haven’t written. I have been busy with my course at the university and a new project. This term is almost finished, I have selected “High Performance Computing” as a stream for the second term. More study is waiting for me for the next term.

My new project’s codename is “Virtuality Project”. I won’t give any information , because it’s only a concept right now. Whenever it is becoming more product you will know it.
