I installed Vista_98.13 from www.laptopvideo2go.com on my Satellite M30 and everything seems to be OK (Aero + games)

However, I can not get windows to turn off the display or change its brightness. Even when I close the lid, the display does not turn off (it remains on).

I downloaded "TOSHIBA Value Added Package" from Toshiba's website (download section for Satellite M30), and I got the toshiba power saver, FN keys and the like, but I still can not turn off the display.

Any suggestions?

Please help!!

I have tried everything and am about to lanch this Toshiba M30 into space. Please could someone help and email me the com modules and chipset to trevorwoodman@hotmail.com. I have tried downloading them and it does not work. I would also like a link to the display drivers as when I down load the file from nvidia it will not let me see the files in order to change them.

Many thanks,

Hey guys thanks a bunch for all this info. I have successfully installed the nvidia driver for my m30 as well as the value added package. Rating is now at 2.0. Can somebody still post those beta drivers somewhere, though?

I got aero and 3d flip working perfectly, all function keys working except for f2, but I have a weird problem: My dvd rom drive only reads dvds and fails to recognise CDs. Is this related to some driver that I have not loaded? Could this be the intel chipset one? I am using the retail version of Windows Vista Ultimate.

Any help appreciated.

Hi
I tried what was suggested at the top of this page.
My score started with 1.0.
Now my score is 2.5
Those four line sure made a difference. This whole article improved my Satellite M30 - 7101U.
What started as a vista upgrade ended when I maxed out the memory to 2 G. That helped alot. Made things abit smQQther, performance wise.
I found a WD - EIDE 120G (5400rpm).
So that's it.
My Toshlite is running reasonably good, touch wood.
I'm going to run this "baby" into the ground.
Thanx to the author for the "four lines" of code for the nVidia.

Video driver: I used the NVIDIA 96.85 Forceware Vista driver, modified the nv_disp.inf with the following lines:
%NVIDIA_NV34.DEV_0328.1% = nv_NV3x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0328
NVIDIA_NV34.DEV_0328.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce FX Go 5200 32/64M "
installed the driver using the "Have Disk" method. Now Aero works fine. However I noticed that even I set the power management to turn off the display after a certain period of time, the screen does blank out, however the backlight stays on. Does anyone notice this and has a solution? I have also tried the 158.18 driver, but it does not fix the backlight problem, so I revert back to the 96.85 driver.

Also none of the Fn hotkeys work.

I've given up. I just can't get my graphics score to 2, so no visual goodies. The rest of Vista is stable so far, but so was XP!!!!! Wondering if I should have bought a new laptop... like a million other people...
